We stopped at a picturesque place near Pinones and took some family pictures. The kids were more interested in the sand than in looking at the camera of course, but we did our best.

A Coloring Fool
Arts & Crafts
My kids love arts and crafts. I think they just like making messes really. Thank goodness for tile. I have a love/hate relationship with the tile floors in this house. They had a great time. I suppose I should heed the words of Ms. Frizzle and let them "Take chances, get messy, and make mistakes" more often.
A Three Hour Tour
Over the Labor Day weekend we visited with our friends the Smiths. We drove down to their place in Ponce then headed to the ferry for Gilligan's Island. I think the whole island had the same day planned as we did because it was fairly crowded. We managed to find a small spot to ourselves and the kids had a good time exploring the wildlife while the adults chatted. It was overcast but I think that made it nice. Overall I think the experience is a bit overrated but we had a good time in spite of it. When we were waiting for the ferry to take us back, we saw dolphins jumping up out of the water. themselves. It was a fun day.

Allison & Jett have become best buddies. Alison says "He's the only boy who has ever trusted me". Not sure what that means but it seems to make her smile.

Adventures in Dentistry
Allison and Blake had dental appointments this month. It was Blake's first trip to the dentist and he did great. Blake didn't have any cavities, but Allison had two. She has already had two cavities in the past. I'm afraid that she's doomed to a mouth full of fillings like her mother. While at the dentist, she discoverd that her two bottom teeth were loose. She spent the next week wiggliong it incessantly. She was constantly looking in the mirror at it and asking evryone she came into contact with to wiggle it (and I do mean everyone). After about a week of wiggling, the tooth finally popped out. Allison was very proud that she got it out all by herself. Now we've moved on to asking the neighbors to wiggle the second loose tooth.

Back to El Colegio
Allison started first grade this year at Colegio Bautista de Levittown. She is really enjoying it so far. She doesn't seem to mind that she looks differnet than every other kid in her class (or school for that matter). In fact, she doesn't even seem to notice. Allison is comfortable pretty much everywhere she goes. It's one of the things that I love about her. Her reading and writing skills are improving and she seems to do well in Math. Her Spanish homework is pretty tricky for us. It usually turns into family homework but it helps all of us learn. Last night she had to write a paragraph using a list of Spanish words. Tricky stuff for a 6 year old English speaker I think. We are proud of our little first grader.
